New Year’s Resolutions 2010

1. I’m going to try to be a little less hard on myself. I’m 25, have a decent job, a lucrative hobby as a semi-pro film critic, and a lot of potential. It’s ok if it remains unrealized potential for a little while.

2. I’m going to try to trust my gut a bit more obstreperously. I should not have married when I did. Hopefully I’ll look back on my current decision to separate with respect. I’m an adult, goddamn it. If you can’t trust yourself, who can you trust?

3. I’m going to make a serious effort to watch more Asian films, especially southwest Asian. I always feel like I’m missing out when such things get discussed.

4. I’m going to try life without antidepressants again, and attempt to be patient with myself as I configure the most appropriate remedy to my head issues.

5. I’m going to try to have more fun. Y’know, to live life in the moment while remaining humble in the shadow of the past and mindful of the future’s possibilities. It might not be a realistic goal for a film critic with self esteem issues, but who knows?

6. I’m going to try to help more people. I don’t know how this goal will be explored—a volunteer program? A general awareness of opportunities for good sameritanism?—but life is too brutal and too brief to stand by the wayside with one’s hands behind one’s back.

7. Failing all of the above, I am determined to find the best French fries (preferably with dipping sauces) in the East Bay Area. I’ll keep ya posted.
